We are very proud of two Okinawan Gojuryu KenkyuKai schools who recently participated and had multiple students place on November 21st's Who's Who Open Tournament at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey.
Students from Mountain Martial Arts / Gojuryu Kenkyukai of New Jersey and United Martial Artist Academy represented and demonstrated traditional Okinawan Gojuryu Katas as well as competing in weapons and Kumite. Congratulations to all the students who had the courage to compete and demonstrate their Martial Arts abilities! Congratulations to United Martial Artist on their successful school demonstration at a local town fair event. United had a booth which promoted their school and a Martial Arts performance.
It was also supported by their mentor/ Kenkyukai North America's Head Shibu School Mountain Martial Arts / Gojuryu Kenkyukai of New Jersey. We are proud to see the continued collaboration from Kenkyukai schools across the country. As well as their continued sharing of Gojuryu Kenkyukai education! To all Kenkyukai schools in North America, if you are or have had an excited event, tell us about it! Happy and safe training to everyone! Sensei Ashok Pawar (Sensei Ash) from our Shibu Dojo in North America is a true Martial Artist and teacher of Goju Ryu. He can often be found leading and taking class in New Jersey with always the keen eye to help and support others with the desire to learn!
We are proud to have Sensei Ash from Mountain Martial Arts/Okinawa Goju Ryu Kenkyukai of NJ visiting and training with a Goju Ryu school in India. The students were enthusiastic and open minded to Sensei Ash's teachings. We look forward to the continued exchange of knowledge and for all of us training together in person in the future. No matter where we all are in the world we are part of the same family! Thank you Sensei Ash for being an ambassador of Martial Arts education and Goju Ryu Kenkyukai!
The seminar featured the teachings of Masaji Taira Sensei, the Okinawa chairman of the Goju Ryu Kenkukai. He is well known in the Okinawan karate world for his innovative approach to traditional karate.
Taira Sensei also awarded Young with Shibucho status for the Menomonie Goju Ryu dojo. This means that Menomonie Goju is one of only 45 official branch dojos worldwide that are entrusted with carrying the lineage of Okinawan Goju Ryu karate. Young has studied traditional Goju Ryu karate for 30 years. He began to study with Loterbauer Sensei in 2001. Since that time, he has made multiple trips to Okinawa to study at the home dojo. “Goju is a deep art not wide and working with Taira Sensei you begin to understand what that means,” Young said. “To receive this status with his organization is a huge honor for us. I wish to thank Loterbauer Sensei for 14 years of guidance and helping me to begin to understand the true way of Okinawan Goju Ryu karate.” In addition to karate, Young studies and instructs Matayoshi Kobudo (Okinawan weapon arts), yoga and Tai Chi. He is a licensed acupuncturist and Asian bodywork therapist in Menomonie.
Through it all, many have kept the spirit and dedication of the education of the Kenkyukai by finding new ways to share knowledge. Virtual training, renovations to school dojos, outdoor training, and many other changes had to take place to survive. Now we want to all come back together, support one another, learn from each other, and share about events and Martial Arts opportunities by all Kenkyukai North America schools!
